I’ve been busy the past few days preparing a bunch of my baby/kid clothes and some maternity clothes for the Just Between Friends sale this weekend in town. It’s a HUGE sale with over 300 consignors and 20,000 items. I have never consigned stuff there before, but I did shop the sale last year and bought a ton of stuff for Julian (all of which he’s outgrown, of course). Tonight is the presale for consignors and I’m hoping to score some good stuff, mostly some summer clothes for the kids and maybe some other things like play equipment for the yard or perhaps a doubleRead More →

Yesterday was my 32nd birthday. The day was rather chilly and rainy, so we didn’t get to do anything outside. We did, however, go out for lunch to California Pizza Kitchen (Jody took the day off), took a scenic drive in the mountains (where it was snowing), and ordered dinner in from one of our favorite restaurants. Jody and the kids got me subscriptions to Mothering magazine and Vegetarian Times. Yay! I’m also getting a new camera case that’s on the way. My sister, who’s birthday is tomorrow, is coming over tonight so we can celebrate both of us. I still need to figure outRead More →

Yesterday morning I sat down with my Lactina breastpump (on loan from the Mothers’ Milk Bank) and pumped my first few ounces of breast milk to donate to the bank. I thought it would be distracting to me to have her watch, but it turns out she had quite the opposite effect. Jody kept her downstairs for a while as I was getting set up and I could hear her asking if I was pumping yet. OnceRead More →

By Rebecca Traister Also, someone on Mothering.com posted a link to the whole Ricki Lake segment on “The View” from the other day. Check them both out! :)

I’m giving myself an early birthday present tonight (my birthday is actually Monday, May 7) and going to see/hear Ina May Gaskin, called “The Greatest Midwife In The World,” talk about her views on childbirth, breastfeeding and parenting at an evening talk. I was hoping both Jody and I could attend, but we didn’t have anyone available to watch Ava, so Julian and I are going ourselves and will meet several of my friends (and my midwife) there. Since planning for a homebirth for Julian, I admit I’ve become quite the birth geek. I’m fascinated by and in awe of it and love to learnRead More →
