I missed the carnival, but apropos of taking baby with to a formal event, check out this post from the archives:

http://www.spousebuzz.com/blog/2007/03/belle_of_the_ba.html

More formal events:
http://mollypitcher.blogspot.com/2007/03/party-girl.html

...and this snotty commenter who, lambasting me for something else, takes issue with me bringing baby to an event and has to take a pot shot at nursing:

When my baby was younger, she was really easy to bring along. Right around 7 or 8 months', though, she became less portable and needed more structure. So I've left her with the grandparents three times--but only once where they had to put her down to sleep. I know I need to start to trust others, but I am more afraid of traumatizing them than her if they have to put her down to bed!

This is where I am totally spoiled by having my mom and dad nearby. By 5 weeks I really, really needed a break (S was the Amazing non-sleeping baby and screamed mostly every waking minute) and was able to leave S w/ my mom and he did great. She's always been really, really great about calling me if he seems off or sad so I can come home. I feel guilty bothering my mom so I don't leave the kids as often as I could....but it's nice to have that out sometimes :) I need some breaks for my sanity!

The first time we left our little Monkey he was four months old. We went to a late movie while our cousin stayed with him. He was already asleep when we left and didn't know we were gone!
