[...] I love my Crocs (they saved my bacon when my feet swelled during pregnancy) and my kiddo loves hers too. I’m delighted that I can recycle my worn out pairs. [...]

thanks for this tip! crocs are so ubiquitous in my house that my 1-year-old's second word was "croc" - generic for any shoe. yikes.

You can also recycle non-croc shoes. Nike has a Reuse-A-Shoe program that recycles old tennis shoes (even other brands than Nike) into Nike Grind, which they use to make athletic surfaces. And ShareYourSoles.org was started by a woman who visited Central America in 1999 and saw the local children painting their feet with tar so they could run a race. She collects gently used shoes and then redistributes them all over the world. Her program gives kids what is sometimes their first pair of shoes.

Both have drop off centers across the US and you can send shoes in the mail too. Postage is tax deductible.

I have a big box of shoes in my closet that I'm saving for our trip to the beach this fall. There is a drop off center about 45 minutes from the place we stay.

This is one of my favorite new charities. I just love the idea that my Crocs can be recycled. Makes me feel just a little less guilty about getting a new pair!

I've never worn crocks before but I'm glad that more companies are recycling instead of shoes ending up in the landfill. So many of us just chuck out shoes when we are done with them when we could repair them, resole them, sell them, donate them or recycle them.
