It seems like just yesterday Ava was small enough to fit into my arms, but this weekend my baby girl had her first soccer game. And just like that – I’m a soccer mom (and wife to a soccer coach to boot!). ;)
I don’t know if I look like a soccer mom. What do soccer moms look like anyway? I’d take a pic of myself and let you make the call, but since we’ve all been sick with some nasty colds the past several days and I haven’t had a haircut in months and may now be sporting a mullet (gah!) and thus am hardly feeling photogenic at the moment, I think I’ll pass. ;oP
Anyway, Ava and daddy had their first soccer game this weekend. The kids were up against a much more experienced team and while they weren’t able to pull off even one goal (bummer), they had fun and I had a good time watching them and snapping pics (I even dusted off my SLR for the occasion) until a certain little someone pulled me away to the playground. ;)
This is how we’ll be spending our Saturdays for the next eight weeks and that brings a smile to my face.
Here are some pics of my little soccer player (in the purple pants) and coach hubby (with the shaved head and the green shirt). Mouse over the pics for captions or click to enlarge.
I know I haven’t participated in a while (photography just hasn’t been in the cards for me lately), but I’m counting this as my Best Shot Monday post and choosing the last pic as my BSM for this week. For more Best Shot Monday pics, visit Mother May I.

Love it–can you believe how much they’ve grown in (gulp!) almost five years? how can our babies be so big?

They grow up so fast! This is just the beginning!
(Now, will you tell us tales about the competitive parents? We had one that would run out on the field and carry her unresponsive kids to the ball. Then carry them all over the field. They wanted no part of it, but SHE sure did!! ha!)
Hope you’re feeling well.
Enjoy the games!

Sure looks like they are having a grand time. I have to admit I’m looking forward to my little one suddenly deciding to play sports when he’s older. Enjoy the soccer games! :)

That’s a fun age for soccer. I coached that age group with my dad in high school for two seasons. My brother also played soccer from that age until college. I played a few years but with asthma and a bad ankle it wasn’t my thing.

Crunchy: I couldn’t believe the timeliness of your post. My almost 4 year old will be starting soccer today and I share the exact feelings as you! Thanks for sharing the pictures – they are adorable! I can’t wait to see my little blonde muppet tripping over the ball! Cheers, Kimberly

wow this really takes me back. my son is 15 and has been playing soccer for 10 years. I have a daughter that’s 17 playing at the high school and this is her senior year. She just received a soccer scholarship for college. My older daughter also received a soccer scholarship and is in her second year at college. Its a great sport! My 2 year old grandson can already do a pull back so it looks like even more soccer to come. My husband has been coaching for more then 8 years and I manage the teams. Enjoy every minute of it because before you know it, they’re grown and out the door.
