In keeping with the spirit of the second annual Ditch the Disposables Challenge, I want to tell you about a great eco-friendly paper towel replacements – the SKOY cloth. SKOY cloths are reusable, very absorbent, bright and fun, machine washable and microwavable, and at the end of their life, biodegradable. They are non-toxic, chlorine-free and made using water-based colors and inks. According to SKOYcloth.com, “Using one SKOY cloth is the equivalent to using 15 rolls of paper towels in an average home.” To read more about SKOY cloths, check out my SKOY review from last year.
To help you with the Ditch the Disposables Challenge, SKOY is giving away FOUR 4-packs of SKOY cloths. All you need to do for a chance to win is:
- First sign up (if you haven’t already) for my Ditch the Disposables Challenge 2009.
- Then leave a comment on this post and make sure you include a valid email address or a blog URL so I have a way to contact you. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, Sept. 23. The four winners will be chosen using Random.org on Sept. 24 and notified via email. Good luck!
Watch for more giveaways in the weeks ahead from GlassDharma straws, the DivaCup, and LunaPads!
If anyone else makes or sells reusable products that are in line with the Ditch the Disposables Challenge 2009 and you’d like me to do a giveaway, shoot me an email : crunchydomesticgoddess AT gmail DOT com. :)

Hi! I have already entered the challenge and was talking it up to some friends. I mentioned family cloth to a friend whom I considered to be more crunchy than me and he told me he had never thought of using them! Well, they use cloth for their baby but they never thought of using them for the adults and older kids! So I was excited to talk about the challenge and my thoughts…especially since I feel like it’s a stretch for me! As for the SKOY cloths, we have survived a while w/o paper towel but are in need of some good cloths for cleaning. Rags are not cutting it! Thank you for hosting so many good things on your blog!

I totally failed at this challenge tonight. Went to dinner, ordered too much food and brought home leftovers in styrofoam containers. Also used disposable chopsticks and even a straw at the restaurant. I even have a pair of screw together steel chopsticks that I forgot at home and I was so damn thirsty I felt the need to use a straw.
And on the note I could definitely use to use some disposable cloths.

I entered the challenge to give up my plastic cutlery and tissue habit. But I love skoy clothes- they last a long time and when they are stinky I just throw them in the washer with a load of clothes and they come out fresh and ready to go!

OK, I am finally committing! I would love to try Skoy in my effort to reduce paper towel usage! I have also tried Twist cloths, which sound very similar, you might try them too – you can get them at Whole Foods. I would like to see the difference in the two products, and would blog about it if I win them.

I quit paper towels a couple of years ago. Don’t miss them AT ALL!
I just replenished my towel basket by the sink with homemade dishclothes from old towels (reuse!!! recycle!!)
But, if I win, I would share these with a die hard paper towel addict who swears life would cease to exist if paper towels weren’t purchased in massive packs and used in extreme quantities! Perhaps one small gift could change her outlook.
